PDC World Championship Darts

The PDC World Championship is the pinnacle of the darts betting calendar and the Holy Grail for all darts professionals.

Since 1994, two years after the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) was formed, as a breakaway organisation from the longstanding British Darts Organisation (BDO), the PDC World Championship has been held annually very winter. Dennis Priestley won the inaugural title beating Phil Taylor 6-1 in the final. Since then Taylor has dominated the event with 13 titles, regularly rewarding his backers in the PDC World Championship darts betting markets.

In its formative years Skol mostly sponsored the event, but since 2003 the PDC World Championship sponsors have been Ladbrokes. The relationship has coincided with the meteoric rise in darts’ popularity and specifically the rise in popularity of PDC World Championship darts betting. With three consecutive weeks of darting action the sport very much takes centre stage in the days either side of Christmas and New Year.

PDC World Championship Betting

Ever since it began PDC World Championship Darts Betting has been all about one man: Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor. He has won no fewer than 13 PDC World titles and played in an astounding 16 of the 18 finals. Taylor’s dominance in darts is unparalleled in any other sport.

John Part is the only other player to have multiple PDC World titles to his name. In 2003 he beat Taylor in the final then five years later he defeated Kirk Shepherd to win his second. Raymond van Barneveld made the move over from the BDO and in his first year took the tile with a 7-6 final win over Taylor, before The Power got his revenge two years later with a 7-1 demolition of the Dutchman.

PDC World Championship darts betting has grown year on year since its advent and now attracts thousands of punters from around the world. The ranges of darts betting markets are vast and diverse, varying from simple match odds betting to betting on the number of 180s hit, the highest checkout and even the colour of the first double hit.
